Abstract

Currently, issues on the depletion of world fossil fuel either petroleum or petroleum diesel have been a major concerned among researcher and scientist, and they believed that the world fossil fuel will run out within the next 20 years. Biodiesel commercialization has been optimized in the advanced country such as United State of American and European country compared to Malaysia. In this research, the production of Waste Vegatable Oil (WVO), namely B100 and different mixture composition of biodiesel and diesel; B20, B10 and B5 respectively will be tested on the engine performance testing. While the test is being conducted filter paper will be placed at the front of the funnel of gas exhaust to collect the particulate matter out from gas exhaust for each combustion of every composition biodiesel and diesel to estimate the percentage of carbon emissions. This process is done in order to identify the quality performance of biodiesel that will be used in diesel engine. In this study, Inverted Microscope is used to investigate the particle element captured on filter paper. By using the Inverted Microscope in this research compared with similar results from study done by Dong-Joo Yoon et. al., it is prove that the B20 biodiesel blend with the composition consists of 80% diesel and 20% biodiesel (B20) is the best for engine performance compared to B10 and B5 as far as the particulate matter released is concerned.
