Abstract

Hard Disk Drive (HDD) industry is one of the industries that manage the HDD data using the barcode system application. Conventional application requires operators to manually scan each HDD to locate and detect the required HDD. And this approach or technique consumed a lot of time as well as time efficiency is wasted. Hence, a HDD serial number scanning algorithm is proposed to overcome the conventional scanning approach to improve the time efficiency. This proposed project is to develop a Hard Disk Drive recording and inventory system by using image processing technique instead of conventional barcode scanning using electronic barcode scanner. The barcode serial number is decoded from the captured image and is saved into excel file for further references. Furthermore, the proposed system is able to track the required HDD by comparing the desired based on the serial number, eval code, or family of the drive. This is very important for an operator to locate the HDD location immediately and perform the inventory process easier, faster, efficiently and conveniently. Matlab software is used to develop the overall algorithm alongside integrating with the image acquisition devices. Graphical User Interface (GUI) is designed using GUIDE tool in Matlab to provide convenience (user-friendly) for user while operating the system. The proposed barcode recognition system is tested and results are discussed.
