Abstract

In the field of robotics, sensors play an important role for the robot to interact with its environments. Through the sensors, the robot can sense it whereabouts and reacts to dynamic environment. This research aims to use a microcontroller as the robot brain to control various types of sensors according to the robot environment. For example, the sensors that can be used are sonar sensor, proximity sensor, infrared sensor, light sensor, chemical sensor, and etc. The sensors behaviors will also be studied for later robotics application. A kit for controlling motor will be developed and together can be used for the sensor application. The application sensor will be specified and documented, which can be used as a reference and guidance for students or researchers in the field of robotics. The designed system kit comprises a number of sensors, electronics circuit, microcontroller unit, communication, wheels, de motor, stepper motor, and encoder. It can then be applied in various robotics behaviors such as light seeking, obstacle avoidance, line following and etc. The research is divided to 2 parts which are the kit development and the application of the sensor which can be used to simulate the issue happens in Port. The new method use to detect the obstacles in port had been developed with two different types of sensors which are infra red and sonar with the result accuracy up to 92% and 79% respectively.
