Abstract

7QC tool has been accepted as one of the approaches for continuous improvement effort in industries. This study focused on the application of 7QC tools in addresing real industries problems. The study applied 7QC tools to address the yield issues of ABC Company. Total eight month of production data was collected for this study and these data was based on Corrective Action Report. Check sheet, pareto analysis, control chart, flowchart and cause and effect diagram analysis were performed. These top four defect types were identified as wrinkle, tension buckle, adhesive miscoating, and dirty on face through check sheet through pareto analysis. The control chart analysis indicates that the problems were due to systemic issues rather than excursionary issues. From the flow chart and cause and effect diagram, the possible root causes were identified as Man, Machinery, Method and Material. The proposed corrective actions were, to develop matrix between the thickness of the product and proper tension setting for wrinkles defect, develop one point lesson for tension buckle defects, install stainless steel cover on coating station for adhesive miscoating defects, and lastly using the pneumatic rotary with nanoabrasive foam for dirty on face defect. The Return of Investment (ROI) analysis of the corrective action indicated that the pay back period of the investment is 0.5month.
