Abstract

Hole making had long been recognized as the most prominent machining process, requiring specialized techniques to achieve optimum cutting condition. Drilling can be described as a process where a multi-point tool is used to remove unwanted materials to produce a desired hole. Generally, the quality of the drilled hole was measured by dimensional accurate such as cylindrically, ovallity, hole positioning accuracy, roundness, and surface roughness. However, high production machining and drilling with high cutting velocity, feed rate and tool length is inherently associated with generation of the aim of this work is to utilize taguchi method to investigate the effects of drilling parameters such as cutting speed 70m/min,90m/min and 110m/min. feed rate 0.1,0.45 and 0.80 mm/min and drill tool diameter 95mm, 105mm, and 115mm on This paper presents the influence factor such as cutting conditions and machine tool rigidity on holes' quality during drilling operation CNC Machining Center is used to machine specimens using different cutting parameter such as cutting speed and feed rate, tool length and vibration. Then by using accelerometer to measure and record for each cutting condition Machine vibrations in x, y and z-axis directions which are used to inspect the rigidity of the machine are recorded The study shows that the cutting conditions such as speed" feed, vibration in machine's x and z-axis direction, tool crater wear has significant influence in determining the diameter drilled hole quality. A model was established to guide machine operator in selecting a suitable machine tool for achieving a certain degree of hole quality
