Abstract

Fluid power transmission systems are used in converting energy from mechanical energy to fluid energy, and then back to mechanical energy. The principle reason for converting to fluid energy is the convenience of transferring energy to a new location. Fluid power drives have many advantages over other technologies, in term of the ratio of weight, precise positioning, smooth operation and good controllability. These advantages make them very popular in applications such as aircraft, mobile equipment, lifting machines and forest machines. The project concentrated on the performance of an energy efficient valve- controlled system. The system uses a pressure compensated pump technology, where the pump supplies only the flow which is required by the system. The project involves the simulation and experimentation on the pressure compensated vane pump system. It also involves the development of a data acquisition system in evaluating the energy-efficient of the system.
