Abstract

The title of this project is design and analysis of natural fiber to introduce into metal matrix composites for engineering application. In this project, a new combination of composites is formed where the fibers of empty oil palm fruit bunches and Titanium (IV) Carbide fibers are reinforced into LM6 Aluminum alloy by using sand casting process. In short, the parameters that affects natural fiber reinforced into metal matrix composites are identified and performed analysis to identify the most appropriate proportion of material through the used of SolidWorks and ANSYS engineering analysis softwares. Besides that, Pugh method is implemented in order to optimize the performance of composites. The project started with research of elements in sand casting as well as properties of empty oil palm fruit bunches, Titanium (IV) Carbide, and LM6 Aluminum alloy. After go through the discussion and analysis, 95% of LM6 Aluminum alloy reinforced by 5% of Titanium (IV) Carbide and oil palm empty fruits fibers are identified as the best material composites which is capable of allowing smooth molten metal flow and uniform solidification to obtain a strong and defectless casting for engineering application purpose
