Abstract

The use of computational methods for solving partial differential equations in the field of Heat Transfer is crucial. However, the actual user friendly commercial applications, for the resolution of this kind of problems are expensive. The features provided is general and could only solve basic heat transfer problems. Furthermore, there is no proper tool to assist users in conducting analysis and making decision. This research aims to study the current issues and problems related to heat distribution in real world case study. Throughout the research, an appropriate mathematical will be used and tested. This research also will develop a graphical interface tool for the resolution of heat transfer problems using the finite volume method. The tool that has been developed is based on the user requirements and analyses in one of the petrochemical industries in Malaysia. This development is made in MA TLAB, due to its capacity to generate graphical results in an easy and efficient way. In MA TLAB, there exist several functions that have the ability to calculate heat transfer model. In specific, the toolbox called partial differential equation (PDE) toolbox. The MATLAB graphical interface is used as a prototype tool for heat transfer model. The tool will be tested on the experimental data since the actual case study could not provide a proper data. In future, further research for the purpose to test and validate the tool could be conducted.
