Abstract

The integration of manufacturing enterprises still offers wide areas to work on. Most the integrations are currently done on turnkey, one-to-one or between homogeneous systems. Previous works have limitations due to the use of different formats of data exchange. Thus the needs for data customization and prevent the enhancement of the study for the manufacturing enterprises integration in heterogeneous systems. The research begins with literature review and some reviewing of the existing methods of information modeling. Then the research proceeds with developing the information modeling through the software, IDEF. One of the requirements of developing an integration framework is to use a neutral format product data. Based on current developments in data exchange and sharing the up-and-coming standard, ISO 10303 Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data (STEP), is used to define the schema for Computer-Aided Process Planning (CAPP). A data definition, EXPRESS, which is an application protocol for STEP, is used to build the product data models. In order to help write appropriate schemas in EXPRESS an expert system is build to automate the selection of entities and attributes. Database and related tables are developed based on the information architecture of IDEF and definitions described by EXPRESS. The tables and fields in databases must conform to attributes and entities in the schemas. Specific data for CAPP and related applications are then populated in the database. User interface is built using Visual C++ to link all the components.
