Abstract

This project is about the development of small prototype of Vacuum Cleaning robot and use solar hybrid system as its power source. This Vacuum Cleaning Robot is using a simple robot concept which is using sensors for detecting obstacle and avoiding it. By using various sensors, a robot can move in the room without human interface. There are three sensors used in this project. The first one is ultrasonic sensor which is used detect object or obstacle in front and avoiding it. The second is analog distance sensor which is used to detect wall from the right side of the robot. This sensor will keep the distance between robot and wall side is not too close to avoid collision from the right side of the robot. The last sensor used is IR sensor which is to detect surface and avoid cliff. There are two main parts in this project which are hardware and software development. Hardware consists of microcontroller PIC 16F877A, motor controller L298, ultrasonic sensor LV-MAXSONAR-EZ1, analog distance sensor (SN-GP2Y0A02YK0F) and RC servo motor. While the software development part involves of algorithm programming and microcontroller programming using MicroC. This robot is implementing with vacuum system to clean dust from floor. To make sure the robot move through the whole space of area, ‘Z’ algorithm movement is program into the robot. This movement will increase the efficient of the robot to clean dust in large space of area. Meanwhile, the power sources of solar hybrid system provide remote power system that integrates two or more power sources. This system deals with two power sources that are power from the sun and AC power supply using intelligent controls to manage the system operation. Solar tracking system is one of the products and this particular project will be used to collect the sun energy and convert it into electrical power energy. Solar tracking system is a combination of light sensors, stepper motor, and solar panel. The combination will help the system to intelligently monitor the amount of sunlight during a day. Light sensors are placed in strategic places to read the amount of sunlight. The analysis has been done based on the data to increase the efficiency of solar panel and test is carried out for open and short circuit test.
