Abstract

Design and development of an intelligent robot system or ibot which utilizes artificial intelligence and wireless technology to offer home automation, intelligent surveillance and video conferencing. The innovation in the use of wireless, video technology and artificiality in machine reasoning will enable the proposed robot to offer a competitive edge in global intelligent robotic market. Although there are a number of personal robot assistants available in the market and under research today, none of them have the ability to communicate with the users in natural language. AIBO, the first entertainment robot by Sony which creates thrill all over the world, can only interact with external stimulus like owner's praise or admonishment. It cannot communicate with its owner in natural language, which is probably impeded by its appearance as a "pet dog. Other robot assistant technology, such as Asimo the Honda Humanoid Robot, the mobile robot systems developed in the Autonomous Systems Lab and Alfred, the robot which won the first place in the "Hors d'Oeuvres, Anyone?" competition do not have natural speech processing capability at all.
