Abstract

Microwaves are electromagnetic waves like light, and behave in the same manner. The frequency is generally considered to range from 300 MHz to 300 GHz, hence the wavelength range from I m to I mm. The standard frequency used in domestic microwave ovens is 2450 MHz. Microwaves interact with dielectric materials to generate heat by the agitation of molecules in an alternating electromagnetic field. Water, carbon and matter with high water or carbon contents are good microwave absorbers, whereas glass and ceramics allow microwaves to pass with little or no absorption. There are basically four groupings of the absorber types which those based on advantages from having complex magnetic permeability and complex dielectric constant essentially equal, those that are 'resonant" usually a quarter wavelength thick operating over a relatively narrow frequency range, those that are "broad band" characterized by a gradual tapering from the impedance of free space to that of the medium over appreciable thickness (in terms of wavelengths), those that are very thin (in terms of wave length) that are used to attenuate surface currents on metal structures . This project is purposely to design and create microwave absorber which caJ!l absorb the wave at frequency range between 2.1 GHz. The main materials that will bc:: use are carbon powder, paint, and agriculture waste such as paddy-husk or oil palm fiber'.
