Abstract

This report which is focus on a design the manual office wheelchair for a Malaysian begins with the government order for the non-government company to hire the disable as an employee at least 1 % of total employee. The purpose of this study is to design the wheelchair for an office usage for a Malaysian disable which is considered the limitation of ability and the disable position for a long term daily usage of wheelchair. Some data gained from some literature reviews about existing wheelchair, anthropometry data, type of disable and ergonomic feature for a wheelchair also about Solidwork® 3D drawing software. The survey and observation had been done to collect the actual data about wheelchair users and the existed product. Based on the survey, the majority wheelchair users in Malaysia are female adult. Meanwhile, the top two critical parts of manual wheelchair are back rest and seat which is need to be develop. The idea and concept of this design are combination of manual wheelchair and the ergonomics office chair. The design specification of the design are followed the Malaysian female adult anthropometry data. Based on the Pugh Matrix Method for screening and scoring process, the design C had been selected and the design transferred into the Solidwork® 3D drawing. The criteria for an ergonomics office wheelchair specifically for a backrest and seat had been absorbed and applied to make sure it is suit for a Malaysian female adult usage. These design hopefully maybe the trigger for the next brilliant design in the future.
