Abstract

The research investigates the impact of demographic factors on truck drivers' behavior and the subsequent influence on accident severity. With the increasing prevalence of heavy truck accidents contributing significantly to road traffic fatalities, understanding the underlying factors is crucial for enhancing road safety. The research employs a descriptive design, utilizing a structured questionnaire distributed to 180 truck drivers in Penang. A pilot test was conducted to refine the questionnaire, ensuring the reliability of the data collection instrument, which was analyzed using SPSS software. The study tests several hypotheses, including the relationships between age, years of driving experience, and driver behavior concerning accident severity. The findings reveal significant correlations and differences, providing insights into how demographic variables affect driving behavior and accident outcomes. This research contributes to the existing literature on road safety and offers practical implications for policy-makers and transportation stakeholders aiming to mitigate accident risks among truck drivers.
