Abstract

This research is about an ergonomic study at a clay industry workstation. Observation had shown that the current design workstation is not suitable for the workers to carry out the task in a comfortable position. Most manual handling tasks showed that the workers are performing their job in an awkward posture that can lead to Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD). This study aims to define the level of pain among the workers in their daily routine and propose a new design workstation to give comfort while performing the task. The study of how people function in their environment is known as ergonomics. An analysis of how people who mostly stand in their workstations get work-related back injuries is an example of ergonomics. As for the workplace, design considerations are intended to optimize efficiency by minimizing operator exhaustion and discomfort. This study only focused on the setting area in the Golden Clay Industry. The problem statement is collected from observation during industry visits and interview with the workers. The worker’s working postures were analyzed by RULA analysis in CATIA software. The result showed improvement after redesigning the workstation and reducing the risk of Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD). On this basis, the ergonomic element in the design workstation should be taken into account for better future health
