Abstract

Muscle fatigue is a situation where an individual experiencing difficulty in recovering from muscle overtiredness. Muscle fatigue can affect an individual ability to perform any task efficiently which is one of the most fears factors that can to happen towards workers in the manufacturing industry. The scope of this project is focused on muscle fatigue study towards milling machine operator which is the sensor placed on two type of muscle thoracolumbar (waist) and gastrocnemius medial head (calf). 13 respondents were randomly selected from UTeM Technology Campus in order to participate in this research. They are all aged from 22 years old to 27 years old, with each of them has different weight and height. One type of machine is being used which is vertical conventional milling machine placed in machining lab factory 2 UTeM Technology Campus. The respondents need to operate the milling machine for 30 minutes for the experiment. Delsys TRIGNO Wireless System sensor or electromyography (EMG) are being used in order to detect the electrical signals from muscle activity. The EMG data are being used for two purposes to achieve the objective of this study which is to study the muscle activity of milling machine operator by using Root mean square (RMS) method and to study and analyze the muscle fatigue of milling machine operator by using mean frequency (MDF) method. There are two main software is being used to record real-life data and analysis, which are EMGWorks Acquisition and EMGWorks Analysis. The results obtained show the method used for muscle activity assessment which is RMS and muscle fatigue assessment which is MDF is successful. Finally, calculating the best percentile design and propose for the milling machine table redesign to reduce muscle fatigue for the milling machine operator.
