Abstract

With the advancement of information technology, the trends of knowledge delivery have accounted several revamps in the past decade. Apart from encouraging lifelong learning, an e-learning environment should also personalized the learning path of its user as different individuals suit different learning styles and pace in the process of acquiring knowledge. The use of information and communication technology particularly at higher educational institution has fostered the issue of incorporating adaptive feature in e-learning environment. One of the most common aspects of adaptive learning lies in the assessment module. Therefore, adaptive assessment has emerged as a significant behaviour in an e-learning system. This study aims at proposing an intelligent E-assessment model to support adaptive evaluation in E-Learning environment. Automated assessment feature in terms of creating personalised test for user at different level and time enables user to perform self evaluation at any point in their learning path before completing a learning goal or objectives. One of the significant outputs of the study is the intelligent e-assessment model with embedded rough set analysis module used to determine the number and the difficulty level of the questions included in the automated test creation. The intelligent feature will also suggest the necessity and the level of achievement to the user at the end of the test. The proposed model is further implemented as a cross-platform web-based application developed with JAVA technologies and JDBC. This study is vital to facilitate the process of e- learning in higher educational institution especially in UTeM.
