Abstract

This thesis is divided into two parts; there are Project I and Project II. Project I is carried out in Special Semester (8 weeks), while Project II is carried in Semester 7. The system title is Intelligent Tourism System (ITS) which is based on Decision Support concept for Penang Tourism Department. The study aims to bring about the changes, development and better improvement to the current Penang tourism information system through the effective use of computer technology in terms of information management to provide both value and service to attract more tourists coming to P enang. ITS provide facilities based on different user which is include potential tourist, tourism service provider and officer tourism department. ITS will proposed value-added service to help them generate desired itinerary. Besides, this system also will help officer tourism department in data manipulation such as update, insert and delete. Instead of data manipulation, officer tourism department also can modify content in web page using editor and approve tourism service provider which is fulfil requirement. Based on a use-case driven object-oriented system development methodology, a prototype of Penang Tourism Information System is built. The prototype built incorporates multimedia elements and provide a value-added service to the user based on the characteristic of Decision Support System in which it enable the potential tourist to adjust and access the information according to their own individual needs and can generate a customize trip plan based on the selected destination, budget, departure location and travel priority. The system is developed based on three-tier technology which is using Internet Information Server (liS) as our server, Active Server Page (ASP) scripting language and Microsoft Access as database.
