Abstract
This project was carried out with the objective to develop a PC-based temperature data logger that will be used to measure and to record a temperature of vertical tube furnace. The scope of the research is including a study of fundamental knowledge of data logger and with the priority in studying the fundamental laws and application of the thermocouple. Thermocouple at the basic is consisting of two wires of dissimilar metal. The two dissimilar wires having joints at measuring end and reference point of the thermocouple. The temperature different between the points will produce a potential voltage which proportional with the temperature different. The study was focused on how to measure the potential voltage produced by the thermocouple as the voltages represent the temperature of thermocouples. The voltages of the thermocouples were measured by the developed signal acquisition module using PIC16F877. The study also includes a design of the thermocouple probe to be used in the tube furnace to study the uniformity of the produced heat.
