Abstract

An adequate water supply is important for plant growth. When rainfall is not sufficient, the plants need additional water from irrigation system. Various methods of irrigation can be used to supply water to the plants. Each method of irrigation has its advantages and disadvantages. In this project, types of sprinkler irrigation have been choosing. Sprinkler irrigation is a method of applying irrigation water which is similar to natural rainfall. Water is pumped through a pipe system and then sprayed onto the crops through rotating sprinkler heads. The pump supply system, sprinklers and operating conditions must be designed to enable a uniform application of water. The purposes of development of this project is to help the end user such as farmer by using the sprinkler for their crops on the exact time and at the same time prevent the waste of water. This system use soil moisture sensor based technology to automate irrigation that can improve water usage efficiency. Soil moisture sensor is needed to control the water pump of automatic watering system. The soil moisture sensor uses the concept of electrolysis. The resistance of soil is increased inversely proportional with decreasing of the amount of water in soil. Less current will flow between the electrodes. The moisture of the soil can be set based on user or equipment requirement. This system improved the method of irrigation system from manual to automatic to make the farmers easier to monitor the soil condition of the plants. The result from the project shows that both hardware and software are running properly.
