Abstract

This project explores the application of Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs) in Four-Wave Mixing (FWM) for wavelength conversion with a focus on intensity noise reduction. SOAs are pivotal in modern optical communication systems due to their ability to amplify signals and facilitate wavelength conversion through nonlinear optical processes. FWM in SOAs is a promising technique for efficient wavelength conversion, which is essential for dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) systems. However, a significant challenge is the intensity noise that can degrade signal quality. This project aims to investigate methods to mitigate intensity noise during the FWM process in SOAs. By optimizing the operational parameters and employing advanced noise reduction techniques, the project seeks to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and overall performance of wavelength conversion. The outcomes are expected to contribute to the development of more robust and efficient optical communication networks, enabling higher data transmission rates and improved network reliability.
