Abstract
The development of a Smart Waste Management System aims to improve the management of recycling waste. In this paper describes the building of a recycle bin that uses an Arduino microcontroller to automatically sort several types of recyclable material. The aim of this project is to build a prototype recycling bin equipped with a sensing mechanism that can autonomously sort recyclable materials, including plastic, paper, and metal, wet and allocate them to different bin partitions based on their respective kinds. Additionally, the sensitivity analysis of the prototype recycling bin for accurate garbage sorting is included in this study. There are two components to the recycling bin prototype's construction: the mechanical and the sensor components. The sensor component identifies different waste materials, including plastic, paper, metal and wet waste. An ultrasonic sensor is used to identify waste, LCD for display and soil moisture sensor is used to identify waste that is wet based. The mechanical component integrated a computer and servo motor to sort the garbage according to its type. The work's results demonstrate that the prototype recycle bin can successfully sort waste, particularly plastic waste, and that it has a great deal of promise for use in the future. For efficient waste segregation, the prototype's sensitivity to paper, metal and wet based trash needs to be further enhanced.
