Abstract
All vehicles produce various harmful gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and hydrocarbons (HC), which can cause severe health hazards to the passengers if exposed at a certain level. Numerous incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning in automobiles have recently highlighted the need for a reliable harmful gases detection system. This project aims to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based hazardous gas detector solely for vehicle cabins to address the problem of gas build up and prevent health risks caused by harmful gases. The development of this wireless, user-friendly hazardous gas detection system incorporates the use of Node-RED, Arduino and a gas sensor. This project involves the selecting of gas sensors such as the Grove-Multichannel Gas Sensor V2, which can detect four types of harmful gases for human which are carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ethyl alcohol (C2H5CH) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This gas sensor is integrated with ESP32 microcontroller, Node-RED, MQTT and MySQL for real-time monitoring and data collection. This system will undergo three testing under a controlled condition to determine its functionality, stability, and performance to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the results obtained. By the end of this project, a robust gas detection system that can quickly issue alarms to passengers in real-time and enhance the safety of the vehicle and its occupants by preventing risks related with exposure to harmful gases is proven to be reliable according to results obtained during the testing process.
