Abstract
Waste is regarded as the by-products or end products of the production and consumption process. A growing number of people have caused resource consumption to increase. This scenario will create a large amount of wastes for the surrounding environment. Therefore, cleaners play an important role in the solid waste management system to prevent the overflowing of the bin and maintain the cleanliness of the environment. Basically, solid wastes in the garbage bins were collected by the cleaners from time to time. The problem that the cleaners faced nowadays is that they are unable to monitor the real-time status of the bin level. Hence, this proposed project allows cleaners and users to obtain real-time information on the garbage bin level. Besides, users can be aware of the overflowing bins through alert messages. The proposed waste monitoring system comprises NodeMCU ESP8266, HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor, MQ-4 gas sensor and a solar power system. A mobile application will be developed for the user interface. A prototype of the system will be built together with the printed circuit board (PCB). This system creates responsibility between the people to segregate the waste properly, create a user-friendly environment, and improve environmental quality.
