Abstract

This study discussed on the development of polymer optical fiber (POF) sensor that will be used for sensing alcohol vapour. A circuit consisting the transmitter and receiver will be constructed as the electronic part of the system. The POF is exposed at the core part and is measured into five different lengths to make a loop-shaped that will react with the environment in a closed and sealed chamber. To increase its ability to sense volatile molecules, POF will be coated with zinc oxide as its sensing material. Hydrothermal method is applied in synthesizing the nanorods on the core of the POF. The coated POF will undergo humidity test and alcohol vapour sensing test as to identify the behaviour of nanorods upon reacting with molecules.
