Abstract

Lightning is a natural fascinating phenomenon that happens regularly in tropical countries like Malaysia. Despite the beauty of thunder and flashes, lightning strikes pose danger threat that can lead to death and severe injury. In this study, an artificial intelligence-based (AI) algorithm is proposed to classify lightning types accurately in real- time manner. The objective of this research, to design and develop an accurate artificial intelligence or AI-based algorithm of lightning type detection efficiency for MDF system and to evaluate the performance of the AI-based algorithm with real lightning detection from MDF system. By utilizing deep learning algorithm and comparing the result with other literature, we are able to classify 5 type of lightning and up to 66% of total accuracy in classification, notable for -CG has 99.5% classification accuracy. By this we are able to improve the localization rate of the system.
