Abstract
This research delves into the examination of the influence of integrating Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) wire cut waste in the form of short fibers on the mechanical attributes of laminated glass composites. The viability of utilizing short metallic fibers derived from EDM wire cut debris, a complex waste material, is scrutinized for its potential enhancement of the mechanical properties in laminated glass composites. The fabrication process employs the hand layup technique, involving a two-phase approach.During the first phase, a ratio percentage ranging from 10% to 90% is applied to the weight of fiberglass. Experimental analysis encompasses the evaluation of mechanical properties with varying quantities of EDM wire cut waste, conducting tests for tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact resistance. The optimal ratio determined in this phase is identified as 40%. In the subsequent phase, the fabrication proceeds layer by layer, adhering to the established ratio from the preceding phase. The optimal configuration is determined to be a 5-layer laminated composite. This conclusion is drawn from a meticulous examination involving further tensile, flexural, and impact tests. The findings derived from this comprehensive research provide invaluable insights into the ramifications of incorporating short fibers from EDM wire cut waste on the mechanical characteristics of laminated glass composites. This knowledge assumes paramount significance in advancing the development of composite materials that judiciously harness industrial waste, thereby mitigating adverse environmental effects and championing the principles of a circular economy.
