Abstract

The growth of electric motorsports, like Formula E and Formula Varsity, are now receiving more attention as a result of electric vehicles' rising popularity. Due to the highperformance components used in these electric cars, they generate a substantial amount of heat, which makes the use of efficient cooling systems necessary to maintain peak performance and avoid damage. The project focuses on addressing the non-existence or the inadequate cooling strategies of the current Formula Varsity controller. A hybrid air-cooling strategy that uses forced and natural convection air-cooling techniques is suggested as a solution to this problem. A heat sink serves as a medium for natural convection air-cooling while an axial fan is used to help with forced convection air-cooling. To find the best cooling strategy for the Formula Varsity controller, extensive study on air-cooling tactics is done. To maximise heat dissipation, the best fan type is chosen based on the research made, and a heat sink is designed and fabricated to assess its effect on cooling performance. An electrical circuit is developed using Arduino as the microcontroller for data monitoring and control. Simulations are performed to ensure compatibility. Components are integrated, thoroughly tested, and installed in the vehicle. Rigorous testing of the cooling system is conducted under various simulated driving conditions to evaluate its effectiveness. The anticipated outcome of this project is an improved heat dissipation solution for the Formula Varsity controller, leading to enhanced vehicle performance. By addressing the cooling challenges associated with high-performance electric motorsports, this research contributes to the advancement of electric vehicle technologies in the field of motorsports.
