Abstract

This thesis analyzes and assesses how cultural values might inform the design of organizational structures and processes. Organizational success, increased productivity, and a pleasant place to work all originate from well-designed work systems. But work systems can't be created in a vacuum; they need to reflect the same cultural values that underpin the identity and shape the actions of the business as a whole. The study kicks off with a deep dive into the work system's design considerations. Aligning work system design with strategic goals, operational needs, and personnel competencies is discussed as a means to increasing productivity and efficiency. This thesis then moves further to explore how cultural values impact organizational structures. According to Hofstede's definition of culture, a collection of cultural values has been established. Studies have shown that cultural values have an effect on the components that go into creating a company's work system. This thesis elucidates why it is critical to take into account cultural values when creating labor systems. For businesses to develop work systems that are both efficient and authentic to their culture, they must take a more holistic approach that takes cultural values into account during the design phase. Improvements in employee satisfaction, engagement, and productivity can result from a more culturally sensitive approach to designing work systems.
