Abstract
The demand for reliable,quality and continuous energy supply is increasing rapidly in recent years,whilst the gap between the generation and growing demand of the power provided by the conventional system is apparently becoming more significant. Distributed generation (DG) based on renewable sources integrated with local load offers solution through a microgrid concept by penetrating in low and medium distribution network as a small power system feeding into the grid.Microgrid based on Photovoltaic (PV) renewable sources is capable to operate in grid connected and islanding condition. Islanding mode operation,however,has considerable technical issues.One of them is maintaining voltage and frequency control within the permitted and standard define range.Constant change in irradiance and power density hampers the PV system reliability in such a way of the PV current generated is constantly changing over time,which results in the mismatch between the generation and the load demand.As in turn,the detrimental effects of the over/under voltage or over/under frequency are significantly experienced in islanding operation.This project outlines laboratory test for current control mode of PV inverter operating in islanding condition,and study on the impact of voltage and frequency stability for current source inverter operating in islanding condition. A load control algorithm is proposed for providing external control of the relay system connected to the load according to the PV generation autonomously.Load control algorithm measures the current generated from the PV inverter and current flowing to the load using the current sensors and analog data acquisition,followed by processing in algorithm control of the LABVIEW software, and producing a digital signal to the relay control system using digital data acquisition.The laboratory result shows that the load control algorithm system can successfully address the voltage and the frequency violation in islanding condition,whilst maintaining both parameters within the permitted range,regardless of the variation of irradiance and power density produced by the PV sources
