Abstract

This report presents new innovation of traditional moulding device in becoming portable size using Linear DC Motor (LDM) which is suitable for replacing the conventional compression method to process traditional cookies such as tart and samperit. The traditional method is no longer practical as it requires lots of energy and longer time which will affect the productivity. A simple, inexpensive, and robust LDM that could produce constant thrust is required which is unlikely for conventional LDM except with intervention by a complicated control method. Such method is expensive and not suitable for a portable device. The conventional LDM has another drawback which is only suitable for a short displacement. Therefore, this research is about modelling and analysis of LDM with constant thrust characteristics for food automation application. The main objective is to model the thrust of LDM using the Permeance Analysis Method (PAM) that could have constant thrust capability and 40 N minimum thrust. The Finite Element Method (FEM) and measurement result were used for verification. The result showed that a percentage difference between PAM with measurement and FEM were 1.7% and 6.5%, respectively. In conclusion, this paper provides guidance for designing an LDM with capability of constant thrust.
