Abstract

Fuzzy Logic Controller offers good performance behaviour and robustness in high performance motor drive applications. This controller however faced a great challenged with high computational burden in order to realize experimental implementation. Consequently, high sampling time during experimental test and finally degrade the overall motor drive performance. In previous studies, most off the FLC simplification approached are made based in trial and error. No details explanation on the rules selection technique. Thus, this project is aimed to formulate a new simplified rules selection method for FL speed controller (FLSC). The new rules selection methods which provide more systematic approached and fulfill the properties of completeness, consistency and continuity of FLC algorithm. The FLSC investigation is applied to the three phase induction motor drive system. Details analysis of simplified FLSC and standard FLSC is conducted through wide speed demand operation with various load and inertia disturbance. This research will embark the application of FLC in motor drive application such as constant parameter FLC, adaptive FLC, hybrid FLC method and modern control method which may require less computation burden FLC for more complex system application.
