Abstract
Silicone Rubber (SIR) are steadily gaining acceptance in the high voltage insulation application due to a greater insulation properties and light weight attribute, which are suitable in substituting the conventional glass and ceramic insulator. There are still large research efforts conducted all around the world in order to improve the insulating behavior and sustainability of SIR. However, the investigation on the SIR materials under AC and –DC through Inclined Plane Tracking (IPT) Test towards the insulation performances of SIR are still scarce. In this work, pure SIR materials were used. The difference in performance of SIR under AC and –DC were compared through their temperature during IPT test. The temperature were taken for every 30 minutes of interval for 6 hours period. In addition, the leakage current pattern of SIR under –DC were also recorded. In overall, this study compared the performance of both AC and –DC and it could be said that the –DC had higher temperature and had caused a larger damage on the SIR material.
