Abstract

Most of oil-immersed power transformer for generation, transmission, and distribution in electrical system network use mineral oil. Mineral oil is very important to power transformer because it acts as coolant and liquid insulation. A good insulating oil for transformer always has its own standards. Properties such as good dielectric strength, excellent heat transfer and chemically stable under various range of application is one of many ways of knowing that insulating oil is very useful for transformer. High neutralization number and high moisture content can cause the transformers operation to be inefficient. A transformer use for long times can cause the oil to worn out. If the oil is worn out, the oil has to be replaced with a new transformer oil as to ensure the transformer runs smoothly. However, these changing of insulating oil are highly cost and it is not environment friendly if it’s thrown freely. Therefore, the aim for this project is to enhance reclamation of used mineral oil using Taguchi method. This research will also investigate the performance of different parameters of oil temperature, weight of adsorbent, and stirring speed for reclamation process. This can be done by measuring and analyzing the result of breakdown voltage, acidity and viscosity of the reclaimed oil. The research findings are expected to assist power utilities in deciding the parameters that enhance reclamation process as well as improve the performance of inservice insulating oil.
