Abstract
Cold room is specialised equipment to reduce and maintaining the temperature of stored items. Cold room, generally is use for commercial, industrial or special purposes. Temperature and air flow distribution in the cold room is hardly to achieve balance distribution. Moisture content in the cold room is a weighing factor of the system power consumption. The objectives of this paper is to simulate the temperature distribution from three axes, eight corners in the cold room. finally, based on the temperature and air flow distribution, suggestion of better placement of stored item in the cold room will be made. The project will have carried with real cold room in the HVAC Application Laboratory in Faculty of Engineering Technology, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia, Melaka. Center 309 Thermometer data logger was a tool used to obtain the temperature distribution in the cold room. Anemometer was to obtain the air flow of all corner and also the humidity in the cold room. Clamp-on ammeter was to measure the running current of the cold room system. Results, are the temperature distribution are not even at the top in cold room. Temperature are slightly higher at a corner, which it is adjacent to the evaporator, and corner that opposite directly of the evaporator has lower temperature compared to all others. The air flow speed at the eight corners are different, corner with lowest temperature has the highest air flow speed, while the highest temperature, has the lowest air flow speed. The humidity level in the cold room does have significant evidence on the power consumption of the cold room, higher the humidity level boosts the power consumption of the cold room.
