Abstract

At this moment in time, the demand for an advance technologies in the communication system is increasing and becoming higher day by day. The users are expecting a connection that is advance in term of the speed, the connectivity and also the performances. The current technology for the communication network is fourth generation (4G). Currently, the users are expecting the fifth generation (5G) communication network which will have better performances than 4G. The standard frequency range that have been set by the IEEE for the 5G is in between 26.5 GHz up to 40.0 GHz. Therefore, 28 GHz falls within the range and meet the requirement for the 5G application. The Radial Line Slot Array Antenna design and development has its own unique characteristics that made it suitable for this application. RLSA antenna is a very compact and light antenna, it has a high gain and also very easy to fabricate. Moreover, this RLSA antenna can produces three different polarization pattern which is the elliptical polarization, circular polarization and also linear polarization. This project emphasizes on the linear polarization pattern. The substrate that is used to design this RLSA antenna is the Flame Retardant (FR4) with the air gap technique and the AMC structure also used the same substrate. The AMC structure has been designed specially to be embedded onto the RLSA antenna. The design and simulation process is made by using the Computer Simulator Technology (CST) Microwave Software. The result is analyzed and observed in order to achieved the main objectives for this project. In conclusion, the AMC structure do affect the performances of the Radial Line Slot Array antenna.
