Abstract

The introduction of Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme has promoted an increasing number of grid-connected Photovoltaic (PV) systems installations in Malaysia. As a consequence, the network issues related to the PV systems integration need to be properly addressed. This includes the effect of solar irradiance intermittency which is caused by the passing-clouds. In this regards, this project: RACE/F1/TK3/UTEM/8(2/2013) has investigated the effect of passing-cloud on a standard test feeder, focusing on short term voltage drop analysis. Five-minute interval actual PV generation data at Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UTeM, Melaka was used along the project journey. The test network was analyzed using the well-known OpenDSS tool. The network voltage impact of different PV penetration levels were investigated on both sunny and cloudy days. The results has been divided into four main parts which are; 1) result of the investigation on cloud passing in terms of voltage drop; 2) review on the chapter of passing-clouds on distribution network connected to Solar PV (review paper publication); 3) the impact of the Solar PV penetration on transformer tap changer or OL TC; 4) evaluate the power flow of the distribution network performances in terms of power losses. The details results of this project has been discussed in section 4 as to as represent the finding of the research. It is hoped that, the finding of this research project will contributed to the opportunity of continual research project in the future action.
