Abstract

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and thermal comfort are very important to a building design because its construction took place over the world. The problem may appear in non-industrial buildings when there is less quantity of air ventilation provided for the amount of air contaminant in the space. People spent most 90% doing the indoor activity. There will be a lot of effect may occur such as discomfort, feel hot, sleepy and etc. it can be said as the carbon dioxide release by occupant are too much and increase in time and less ventilation system efficiency may reduce of air quality. Other than that, the contaminant from outside the building which enters the building through the window, the building material, electrical component and from the air conditioning system that are not maintained also can reduce the indoor air quality of the building. Therefore it is important to take care the indoor air quality for human comfort and good health to prevent unnecessary things happen. This study has been conducted to a selected room at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UTeM. The IAQ level can be measured base on nine parameter that has been identified from the Industrial Code Of Practice (ICOP) which are Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC), Formaldehyde, Respirable Particulates (PM10), Ozone, Relative Humidity (RH), Temperature and Air Movement. The result of the study will be taken from 8.00 am until 5.00 (working hour) because it is the time when student or working people start doing their activity inside the building and also the situation are when no student will be in the class and/or when student well be in the class. the position of the class are three class with facing outside the building and three class will be inside or have only partition with other class.
