Abstract

Wearable antenna has become quite popular nowadays because it is light-weight, bendable, portable, roll able and easier to bring anywhere. Besides of being light weight, low manufacturing cost and available for inexpensive flexible substrates, wearable antenna is being established as another alternative to conventional antenna which is used rigid substrates. In addition, factor that affecting the popularity of wearable antenna is about its size. So, in order to make the antenna able to miniaturized, monopole microstrip patch antenna is selected because it is patch antenna that permits size reducing. In this paper, a new material potentially to compete with other material for patch has also been introduced as graphene improving the antenna performance. The proposal size of the antenna is 30 x 30 x 1.6 mm to make sure it is small in size. The wearable antenna with copper and graphene conductor and FR-4, panama, fleece and cotton as substrate were designed and simulated by using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Studio software. The performance of the antenna with different patch and different substrate was compared in term of its return loss, realize gain and total efficiency. The return loss was below than -10 dB, realize gain more than 1 dB and total efficiency was less than 0.3 dB.
