Abstract

The title of this final year project is “Temperature Control Using Peltier for Cooling the Apparatus of Lightning Detection System”. One of the lack of the existing lightning detection system nowadays is many part of the lightning detection system must be handled manually. The automation of the system is important because of the system requirement does not always need to be function every time. Hence, the significance of this project is to control the temperature inside the storage box of the instrumentation of lightning detection system. This storage box also composes of the cooling system by using the combination of overhead fan and Peltier system. Since the Peltier cooling system alone is not sufficient to decrease the temperature efficiently, therefore the overhead fan was developed in order to circulating air inside the storage box uniformly. This project has proven that the existing of temperature control system using overhead fan significantly help the Peltier cooling system to speed up and effectively change the time duration needed for cooling system to control the temperature inside the box. The time taken for each drop of temperature significantly decreases when temperature control system installed to the storage box. In a daylight where the maximum temperature can be achieved, a time taken for temperature to drop from 32°C to 31°C which is the highest temperature detected is 3.36 seconds compared to the system without temperature control system which is time taken is 5.72 seconds. For a last drop of temperature during daylight which is 29°C to 28°C, time taken seems to have bigger difference which is 31.58 seconds with temperature control system and 45.80 seconds without temperature control system. Overall, this system able to maintain the temperature in a range of 25°C to 28°C. For a future plan, more improvement from the aspect of design and material used will be done to push the temperature control system operate to the limit point.
