Abstract

There are many types of engine oils in the market. This research helps vehicle user to select the best engine oil for their vehicle by study the effect of different type of engine oils on vehicle engine characteristics. Three types of engine oils that are mineral oil, semi synthetic oil and fully synthetic oil were used in the experiment test. The engine characteristics studied in this paper is the engine temperature and engine noise. The engine temperature and noise were recorded by using data logger module and sound level meter respectively. This research shows that fully synthetic oil is better in reducing engine noise and lowering temperature of engine as cooling agent followed by semi synthetic oil and then mineral oils. The findings in this work were useful for a vehicle user in selecting the best engine oil to be use by their vehicle and can give contribution in the field of automotive technologies, environmental and tribologies.
