Abstract

This study reflects on the development of a mobile monitoring device to perform condition based maintenance on fin fan cooler. Due to occurrence of fouling on fin fan cooler, maintenance personnel is sesceptible to high risk as he required to climb up and facing with hot temperature to measure air flow rate using handheld sensing device. Hence, an air flow sensing device was attached on a radio control (RC) Quadcopter to measure and monitor air flow as an alternative method to detect fouling on fin fan cooler. Wind sensor was programmed with Arduino Uno and data logging shield as sensing device to measure air flow velocity. It was found that the mobile device produces 96.77% of data accuracy compared to the hot-wire anemometer results. The results show that the mobile device measured a lower averages of air flow compared to handheld device due to the different measurement period taken for both devices. Based on the results, the mobile detecting device is acceptable for usage and ready to replace the current method to measure air flow for fin fan cooler which is by using handdheld device.
