Abstract

The purpose of this project is to apply preventive maintenance on the machines for an apparel industry. This industry produces sewing and handicraft accessories which located at Tanjung Kling Free Trade Zone, Malacca. This project was carried out in the wire forming area due to the high frequent of machine breakdown. Currently, this area did not apply any preventive maintenance schedule. High machine downtime is the major problem in this area and root cause of this problem has been identified as well. The objectives of this project are to determine the mean time of failure and mean time of repair of machine and to simulate preventive maintenance in the machine by using simulation software. The first step in methodology was to simulate the current production in wire forming area. The next step was to verify and validate the simulation model. And the last step was to do experimentations of the model to determine the best setting of preventive maintenance for machines. It can be concluded that the objectives have been achieved. The result of simulation showed that the best setting of preventive maintenance for machine X3 is 50 hours and for machine Y8 is 2.2 hours.
