Abstract

The semiconductor company is characterized by the deployment of highly sophisticated machines. in the production process to maximize throughput. The resources of the company include processing equipment, production supportive equipment and devices that are controlled and managed by computers. This leads to the challenge of designing effective user interfaces to allow effective operation and control of the machine from the operators. Generally, human-machine interaction engineering is aimed to produce efficient and user-friendly user interface for operators to control or operate a machine in the way which produces desired results. In today's advanced technology, the emergences of Graphical User Interfaces (GUis) elevate the performance of operators by using icons, images, components or shortcut keys. In this project, the current user interface of applications at the case company will be transformed in order to reduce the time taken in using the applications. This project is conducted in a multinational semiconductor manufacturing, with the objectives of; firstly, study the overall backend process and the user interfaces that used in the shop floor. Secondly, the problems related to the user interfaces for production is determined. The last objective aims to redesign the graphical user interfaces that used at shop floor in order to improve operator's efficiency. The new user interfaces are proposed and designed by using paper prototype. The number of input parameters of the previous system is compared with the redesigned GUis. The reduction of the number of input parameters proved that the redesign GUis has the capability to shorten the time taken in using the user interfaces, and thus, the efficiency of the operators are improved.
