Abstract

The unpredictable temperatures in Malaysia today influence the chicken’s performance. Because of that, there are a lot of demands from the broiler industry to keep good environmental conditions by installing the heat controlling system such as the existing evaporative cooling system (wetted cooling pad) that can control the temperature in a poultry house. However, there is a problem in a way to match the total cooling pad area to the installed fan capacity so that the desired cooling efficiency is achieved. Furthermore, it requires high maintenance in keeping the water lines clear without any algae built-up which are by using various steps depending on the evaporative cooling type and manufacturer’s specifications, including cleaning or changing the filter. In view of this, a heat controlling system based on PIC that can control two fans (DC and AC fan), two lamps (DC and AC lamp) and a buzzer will be developed. The heat controlling system will be operated by, once the heat controlling is turning ON, the DC fan and the DC lamp will also turning ON. Then, when the temperature sensor sense the temperature in the poultry house is higher than the maximum range of temperature, the AC fan and the buzzer will be turned ON. Otherwise, when the temperature is below the minimum temperature range, the buzzer and one lamp will be turned ON. In order to build this project, there are some important component that will be used such as PIC microcontroller (PIC16F876A), temperature sensor (LM35DZ), fan, lamp, buzzer and other components that will be described in this report. This project also will not cost a lot as all the components are affordable. The purpose of this document is to report investigation and performance results of the builded-up prototype dealing with temperature control of poultry house.
