Abstract
This paper is entitled ‘Design and Analysis of Clutch System for Mechanical Flywheel Hybrid Module’. This paper presents development on basic mechanism and conceptual design of the clutch system. A clutch is a mechanical device located between a vehicle engine and its transmission and provides mechanical coupling between the engine and transmission input shaft. Clutch system comprise of flywheel, clutch disc/plate and friction material, pressure plate, clutch cover, diaphragm spring and the linkage necessary to operate the clutch. The clutch engages the transmission gradually by allowing a certain amount of slippage between the flywheel and the transmission input shaft. In this project, the mechanical design of the clutch system was done by using Pugh Method. A case study research design was done by starting with the benchmarking. After that, Product Development Specification (PDS) was done so that the specification can be tabled into the morphological chart. Several ideas were generated in the concept generation. After that, concept scoring was done for all the concepts. The purpose is to find the best concept from all proposed concepts. The result was the conceptual design for the clutch system and the way to integrate it with other flywheel hybrid module members. Further on, the concept was taken into linear static analysis by using Altair HyperWorks v.12.0 software. The purpose of the analysis is to determine the behavior of the clutch disc design in term of various aspects. Displacement stress and von Mises stress is the two main focus in this analysis.
