Abstract

This thesis was conducted in order to develop a vehicle that can capable to moving on the land and water surface that also can be called amphibious vehicle. The objective of this study was to design a brake and steering system for the amphibious hybrid vehicle, analyze the steering and braking system on the land and water surface and to develop an efficient braking and steering system for the amphibious vehicle. In addition, this study was only focus on determine, fabricate and developing a best system for braking and steering. Catia V5R20 was chosen as CAD software to be used in generates the disc brake model based on the sketch. After that CAE software such as Ansys 14.0 was used to determine the maximum von misses stress exert on the disc surface for a static case. Next, the maximum von misses stress was compare to the yield strength of the material used to ensure that the maximum von misses stress value was smaller than the yield strength so plastic deformation not occur. On the other hand for the steering system was simulated and analyze using CarSim software. Double lane change test was run using CarSim in order to estimate the vehicle body movement in reality.
