Abstract

Wireless applications such as cellular-radio system, smart weapons protection, radar, and wireless local area networks (WLAN) has greatly focused on. Regardless of the applications, most systems need increased functionality, improved performance, adaptable and flexible characteristics. The problem with a conventional antenna is the rigidness of a single antenna that any changes in property would require a full redesign or dismantle. The aim of this project is to design, simulate and fabricate a reconfigurable feed antenna with basic operating frequency at 2.4GHz, IEEE 802.11 and with reconfigurable feed that operate at 5.6GHz, HIPERLAN/2. First, a basic aperture coupled with single feed, followed by double feeds and lastly reconfigurable feed with HSMP-389Y PIN Diode was designed and simulated by using CST software. Simulation results and measurement result shows basic aperture coupled feed able to operate at 2.4GHz while double feeds able to operate at 2.4GHz and 5.6GHz. For reconfigurable antenna, simulation and measurement results show that the designed antenna is operate at 2.4GHz and 5.6GHz with reconfigurability function. As the PIN diode switched ON and OFF stage, the designed antenna shows different characteristics on frequency band, polarization, gain and directivity.
