Abstract

The purpose of this project is to build an electrical power consumption meter system by using Integrated Circuit (IC) in order to calculate the individual housing electrical energy consumption and also calculate the total supplied power from the distribution substation. Each of the individual house electrical energy meters will transmit the total energy consumed to the main system for the comparison purpose. Besides that, the electric bill will be send to the individual house owner and administrator automatically at end of the month. This report also describes the hardware design of the electrical energy meter and the software implementation of the communication module and user interface. The overall approach was to build an intelligence energy monitoring system and billing system to the consumer and electricity provider which to display the instantaneous energy consumed and the price to aid the consumer to save the electricity. By using the analysis data method, the activity of non-revenue electricity can be detected by the electricity provider. Meanwhile, the automatic billing system from this proposed project able to reduce the operator cost. Furthermore, the expected outcome of this research is a single phase electrical energy meter prototype will be developed for the real time implementation to measure the load current for 240V AC voltage.
