Abstract

As the new century unfolds, the demand for energy consumption growing thick and fast and so does, its system losses and high energy bills in a domestic or industrial sectors alike. This report discusses the output of a short term research project funded by Kolej Universiti Teknikal Kebangsaan Malaysia. The study concentrated on automated auditing and monitoring of energy uses and analysed data indicating system performances against costs. A literature review reported on the latest updates on the auditing techniques. An energy auditing form was designed to collect data on multiple electrical parameter of buildings. Noticeable obstacles overcame to collect field data from different sources. A software module developed as a first step to simulate the monitoring and controlling of energy uses in buildings. Future work as a follow up phase, will include sensors and switching controlling devices design to capture data on buildings electrical parameters and control on-line the energy uses. ICT utilized to simulate control switching devices remotely as well as generate multiple audit reports and tables. Once fully completed,the project would significantly contribute towards the advancement of ICT in energy sector uses.
